Intuitive
At its heart, intuitive dance is about letting go. Moving freely to music creates a pathway through which buried feelings, inner impulses, and the unconscious mind can naturally surface and express themselves.
For this reason, it became one of the foundations of Dance/Movement Therapy. It is also one of the most widespread forms of modern dancing, visible everywhere from festivals and clubs to concerts and spontaneous celebrations.
“Lose your mind and come to your senses.”
Fritz Perls
This playful yet profound invitation captures the essence of intuitive movement.
We draw inspiration from the pioneering work of Rudolph Laban. He demonstrated how movement is as individual as a personal handwriting style, reflecting human experience through metaphor. Intuitive dance can reveal us to ourselves, illuminating both our strengths and the areas that seek attention or care.
Mood Moves also incorporates safety principles developed by Marian Chase and later practitioners of dance therapy in psychiatric and therapeutic settings. These include the use of gesture, mirroring, grounding, and embodied empathy to support emotional safety and connection.
In Mood Moves:
Movements may arise from feelings, sensations, the music itself, or from images, memories, and themes.
Through simple and enjoyable practices, freedom of movement gradually unfolds, building two restorative capacities: ‘flow’ and resilience.
While some people love completely free-form movement, others feel safer with a gentle structure. Mood Moves bridges this gap by offering supportive “training wheels” that encourage exploration without overwhelm.
The aim is not performance, but presence: feeling fully alive, emotionally connected, and physically expressive in the moment.
Intuitive dance plays a central role in Mood Moves, offering direct and affirming ways to reconnect body, feeling, imagination, and vitality.
